Moxie Traitors - How to Play

Mission trivia plus social deduction, with hidden sabotage and room-wide tension.

Goal

Loyals push Gold missions or eliminate traitors. Traitors push Shadow momentum or outnumber loyals.

Best for

  • 5-10 players
  • Teams that like deduction with structured rounds
  • Groups that want both game skill and social reads
Play Traitors ->

Host setup

  • Host creates a room, shares the link, and players join with name + icon.
  • Everyone clicks Ready in lobby.
  • Host starts game; roles are assigned silently.
  • Win targets scale by room size at game start and stay fixed for the round.
  • Prebrief runs per player, then auto-advances when everyone finishes.

How a round works

  • Mission phase: everyone answers 3 private trivia questions (20s each).
  • Mission reveal: only aggregate results are shown (not who missed).
  • Success adds Gold. Failure adds Shadow.
  • Discussion phase: debate reads in chat; traitors can use private Whispers.
  • Vote phase: each alive player votes to exile one player.
  • Exile resolves, then next cycle starts.

Scoring / win

  • Loyals win by reaching the Gold target, or by eliminating all traitors.
  • Traitors win by reaching the Shadow target, or when traitors are equal to or greater than loyals.
  • Targets scale by starting player count: 5-8 => 3/5, 9-12 => 4/6, 13-17 => 5/8, 18+ => 6/9 (Gold/Shadows).
  • Mission reveal shows team accuracy and incorrect count, not individual correctness.

House rules

  • Deception stays in-game only.
  • No harassment, personal attacks, or out-of-game targeting.
  • No screen-sharing private role info.
  • Keep pressure tactical, not personal.

Host tips

  • Do a quick rules read before Start so lobby waits are shorter.
  • If someone joins late, run them next round instead of mid-cycle.
  • Use discussion to keep pace, then open vote when energy peaks.

Player tips

  • Missions are anonymous: look for behavior patterns over multiple rounds.
  • Call out inconsistencies with evidence, not just vibes.
  • Traitors: blend in by answering correctly most of the time.
  • Loyals: track mission outcomes plus vote history together.
